Susana P. Solano

Ms. Solano represents private and public employers in all employment matters, such as discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation cases, as well as wage and hour matters. Her trial experience includes defending an employer through a five-week class action trial involving allegations of failure to provide meal and rest periods and failure to pay prevailing wages. Her litigation experience includes defending class actions. Her dedicated advocacy for her clients most recently led to the voluntary dismissal by the plaintiff of a class action case. Ms. Solano counsels management on wage and hour compliance, discipline and termination, arbitration agreements, sick leave law, leaves of absences, privacy, personnel policies and practices, employee handbooks, and laws affecting payroll and personnel decisions. Her litigation experience provides her insight to help her clients avoid expensive litigation. Ms. Solano has experience conducting investigations involving complaints of discrimination, harassment, and employee misconduct. She also provides sexual harassment prevention training.

Ms. Solano regularly appears before various administrative agencies, such as the Labor Commissioner, Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, and Department of Fair Employment and Housing.

Ms. Solano is fluent in Spanish and often prepares or translates settlement agreements, employee handbooks, and employment contracts. She provides sexual harassment prevention training in English or Spanish. She also interviews monolingual Spanish-speaking employees or witnesses, as part of employment investigations or litigation defense.

While in law school, Ms. Solano participated in the Immigration Law Clinical Program. Prior to law school, she worked as a research coordinator and assisted in intervention programs for adolescents, citywide educational campaigns on mental health, and research on mental health issues.
