Kronick Moskovitz Tiedemann & Girard is currently seeking an Associate Attorney with 7-10 years of business litigation and transactional experience to join its Business Services Practice Group. Banking and Bankruptcy experience would be a plus. Candidate must be highly motivated, self-sufficient and have a high level of dedication and discipline.

During the month of April, 2017, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced three agreements to settle potential violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability of 1996 (HIPAA). The OCR's settlements represent efforts to actively enforce the privacy, security and breach notification provisions of HIPAA. (The standards that govern privacy are set forth at 45 C.F.R. Part 160 and Subparts A and E of Part 164 (the "Privacy Rule"); the standards that govern security are located at 45 C.F.R.

When will California be preaching to the converted? Examining the challenges with transitioning the state's cannabis businesses to a for-profit structure


Twenty years after California voters approved medical marijuana, the state has been slow to provide guidance to the industry regarding the approved forms of corporate structure for cannabis businesses. The most common form of cannabis business in California is the nonprofit mutual benefit corporation, a hybrid model where corporations are formed to serve a defined class of members rather than for the public benefit. As the industry becomes more lucrative, cannabis enterprises will want to move towards a for-profit structure.
